Does Sun Exposure Really Related to Malignant Melanoma?
Chinese
Based on their study,Christina M. Ambros-Rudolph and colleagues reported medical risks with marathon running, due to increased sun exposure. They said that they observed 8 malignant melanoma cases in marathon runners, and they are confident that marathon runners presented with increased risk with malignant melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer.
I concerned about this conclusion a lot because I like swimming, and I have sunbath every summer to have a darker appearance. If there is clear evidence between excess sun exposure and malignant meloma,I have to do something to protect my skin.
But when I read the detail of this report,I learned that their conclusion is not very clear. The statistical data of their research showed that marathon runners presented with more atypical melanocytic nevi, solar lentigines, and lesions suggestive of nonmelanoma skin cancer. These are not conclusive to say that excess sun exposure is related to malignant melanoma, which is most concerned by me.
Anyway, from this study,I learned the risk, and I will decrease my time in sunlight, prevention is better than medication.
I hope this kind research could give us a clearly conclusion in the near future.Maybe at last they would say, over UV exposure is not related to malignant melanoma, and then I can swim in the sunshine freely again.
